Bay FC welcomed the Orlando Pride to PayPal Park on Sunday afternoon for a National Women’s Soccer League matchup that brought energy, attacking football, and a late push from the home side. Despite creating opportunities and controlling much of the play, Bay FC fell 3–1 to Orlando, with the visitors finding the decisive goals at key moments in the match.
The game began at a frantic pace. Orlando midfielder Haley McCutcheon opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest, giving the visitors an early advantage and forcing Bay FC to respond almost immediately.
The home side did exactly that.
In the 11th minute, forward Racheal Kundananji brought the crowd to life with a diving header at the back post, connecting with a perfectly placed cross from midfielder Claire Hutton. The finish brought Bay FC level at 1–1 and demonstrated the attacking threat the hosts would carry throughout the afternoon.
With the score restored, Bay FC grew into the match, creating several opportunities to take the lead. Karlie Lema came close after a loose clearance fell her way, while Alex Pfeiffer also threatened around the penalty area. Despite the pressure, neither side could find another goal before halftime.
Orlando, however, needed little time to regain the advantage.
Just two minutes into the second half, McCutcheon struck again, heading home an inswinging corner delivered by Angelina in the 47th minute. Her second goal of the afternoon put the Pride back in front and forced Bay FC to chase the game once more.
The response from Bay FC was persistent. The home side continued to push forward, looking for spaces in Orlando’s defense and attempting to turn possession into a second equalizer. Taylor Huff came close in the 62nd minute, while Pfeiffer and Lema also tested the visitors as Bay FC searched for a way back into the contest.
Despite the pressure, Orlando’s defense held firm, and goalkeeper Cosette Morché helped keep the home side from converting its opportunities.
As the match entered its final stages, Bay FC continued to search for a breakthrough. Head coach Emma Coates introduced fresh attacking options, including Keira Barry, who entered the game in the 81st minute and immediately brought urgency to the closing minutes.
Barry made her presence felt, creating two late chances and coming particularly close with an effort from distance that sailed just inches over the crossbar. Her introduction provided one of the final sparks in Bay FC’s push for an equalizer.
Agostina Holzheier also came agonizingly close to scoring, striking the woodwork after breaking through Orlando’s defense. For Bay FC, the chances were there, but the finishing touch remained elusive.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Orlando finally put the result beyond doubt. Jacquie Ovalle drove forward before firing a right-footed strike from distance into the net, sealing a 3–1 victory for the visitors.
The final score did not fully reflect the attacking effort from Bay FC, which recorded more than 54 percent possession and outshot Orlando 27–9. Yet the Pride proved more clinical in front of goal, punishing Bay FC at crucial moments in both halves.
The defeat also confirmed Bay FC’s elimination from playoff contention, leaving the club to focus on finishing the season strongly and building momentum for the future.
For Orlando Pride, the victory provided an important result away from home. For Bay FC, the afternoon offered moments of attacking promise, individual quality, and a reminder of how narrow the margins can be at the highest level of professional soccer.
As the final whistle sounded at PayPal Park, the result belonged to Orlando. But Bay FC’s determination, the quality of Kundananji’s equalizer, and the late impact of Barry ensured there were still moments for the home crowd to remember.
